Having a side destination sign on the driver's side of the bus seems to be a rare thing, even on most of today's buses. #8486 works on route M101 at Lexington Ave. and 34th St. on April 30, 1972. Photo by Joseph Testagrose.

It seems in later years, the side destination signs on many of these buses which were nearing 15 to 18 years old had either been disconnected or broke down and were never fixed again. Notice on #8491 that the destination sign on the driver's side of the bus has been covered up by Advertising since it probably no longer works or something. Photo taken by Steve Zabel on January 11, 1982.

It's Interesting that sometimes when there are a shortage of ads for the buses, that they just put up blank painted ad cards. The Driver's side destination sign can be seen clearly on this unit as well, but I don't think it is the proper sign for this route as the front sign displays route M101.
